Soy vs Paraffin wax and why we choose Soy.
Soy wax is often considered a more environmentally friendly and health-conscious alternative to paraffin wax for several reasons:
Renewable Resource:
Soy Wax: It is made from soybeans, which are a renewable resource. Soy cultivation is sustainable, and it helps support farmers and reduce dependence on non-renewable fossil fuels.
Paraffin Wax: It is a byproduct of petroleum refining, which is a finite and non-renewable resource.
Biodegradability:
Soy Wax: It is biodegradable, meaning it breaks down naturally and does not contribute to environmental pollution.
Paraffin Wax: It is not biodegradable and can contribute to environmental issues when not disposed of properly.
Cleaner Burning:
Soy Wax: Typically burns more cleanly than paraffin wax, producing fewer toxins and pollutants. It doesn't emit harmful chemicals like benzene and toluene.
Paraffin Wax: When burned, it can release harmful chemicals into the air, which may contribute to indoor air pollution.
Support for Agriculture:
Soy Wax: Its production supports farmers involved in soybean cultivation, promoting a more sustainable and diverse agricultural industry.
Paraffin Wax: Production is tied to the petroleum industry, which may have environmental and geopolitical implications.
Soot and Residue:
Soy Wax: Typically produces less soot and residue compared to paraffin wax, leading to cleaner and healthier air quality.
Paraffin Wax: Can release more soot, which can stain walls and furniture and may pose respiratory health concerns.
Renewable Energy in Processing:
Soy Wax: The processing of soy wax often involves the use of renewable energy sources.
Paraffin Wax: The production process may be associated with the consumption of non-renewable energy.
Our decision to go with a 100% Soy wax for our melts and candles came down to 3 main reasons. Being parents we truly care about protecting the environment and world we leave behind for our children and theirs. So the environmental aspect alone was a huge driving force. Second, it helps support the farming industry and soy bean farmers opposed to paraffin production being linked with the petroleum industry. Third, Paraffin wax burns slower and lasts longer which for us is an important component to making it worth our customers money. Thank you for taking the time to read this post and feel free to fact check what I’ve written and look into the differences yourself and make a conscientious decision.
